Ain’t Mountain High Enough, You’re All I Need, Ain’t Nothing Like The Real Thing, and If This World Were Mine: duets so iconic that they will always be considered the greatest male/female R&B duo of all-time. But during the 80′s, a contender to the throne was the incredible pairing of Alexander O’Neal and Cherrelle. Both artists had solid solo careers (I Didn’t Mean To Turn You On, Fake….) but their greatest musical moments were when they teamed up together.
Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis were producing both artists and thought their vocal blend and chemistry would generate a lot of heat. On Alex’s debut CD, he debuted his “sister” as he described Cherrelle, on his funky jam, Innocent. Then on Cherrelle’s second CD, High Priority, their masterpiece, Saturday Love. They kept appearing on each other’s albums with the sexy Never Knew Love Like This, the nostalgic Everything I Miss At Home, the silky smooth Keep It Inside. After their career’s slowed, they teamed up again in 1997 for a comeback with a cover of Baby, Come To Me.
